Short Story Unit (Caged Bird essay)

UPDATE: Thursday, Nov. 10th: Turn in Caged Bird Essay (final draft);  Soft Rains Quiz; Chee’s Daughter Short Story Analysis due Monday, Nov. 14th

We started this week getting into in-depth analysis with the Ray Bradbury short story “There will Come Soft Rains”.

Monday, Nov. 7th: Students received the handout for “Soft Rains” and did the prior knowledge and making predictions section. Due Tuesday, Nov. 8th: Investigate, Inquire and Imagine (sections 1 through 4).

Tuesday, Nov. 8th: Investigate, Inquire and Imagine (Sections 1-4) due. In-class: Personification, theme, and a quick check of the information. 

Review of the Caged Bird essay, which is due Thursday, November 10th. Rough drafts may be sent to me at dothgrin@gmail.com by 7 pm Wednesday for a quick evaluation. Click the link “Review of the Caged Bird Essay” to download this page.

UPDATE: Test for Caged Bird Tuesday, November 1st:

The story takes a turn as Marguerite (Maya) heads to California. We will be examining how her character changes and the Maya Angelou that the world knows today begins to take on more definition. Download the study questions if you have lost them!

Monday, October 24th: Caged Bird Chapters 26-27 reading and sq’s (do not turn in…I will check these at your desk); In-class: work on indirect objects handout

Tuesday, October 25th: Caged Bird Chapters 28-29 (turn in 26-29 beginning of class). We will work on some of the in-class study questions as part of our discussion.

Thursday, October 27th: Caged Bird Chapter 30-32 due (study questions for Chapter 31-34 now available)  be prepared for either in-class study questions or a quiz)

Friday, October 28th: Caged Bird Chapter 33-34 due (details to come later this week)

This week is another crazy week, so make sure you keep tabs on what is happening in class. Also, check out Box (lower right hand corner) for your quick and easy place to find uploaded handouts!) (If you want to know if there are new handouts, RSS subscribe to Box!) The Google Calendar for the class is still around and matches the information below:

Chapters 15-19  reading and study questions were due Monday, October 17th.  If you miss class, be sure to download the notes covering this section. They will not be available until after class on Monday.

Chapters 20-21 are due Tuesday, October 18th. Read and take notes: Study questions will be done in class on Tuesday. The more you have read, the easier this will be!!!

Chapters 22-23 are due Thursday, October 20th: Study Questions will be available on Tuesday, 10.18. If you did not complete Chapters 20-21, please do so for Thursday! Do not forget to find the vocabulary words contained in the book!

Chapters 24-25 are due Friday, October 21st: You will have those study questions at the same time as you get the ones on Tuesday.
